Named Hotelier of the year 2016 at the Asian Business Awards, Shiraz Boghani is rightfully reaping the fruits of his storied, 30-year career. For a little boy, born in Kenya, Boghani’s rise to become the Chairmen of Splendid Hospitality Group was built on dreams and a dynamic entrepreneurial spirit. Splendid Hospitality, under the leadership of Shiraz Boghani, is now one of the leading hotel groups in the UK, and Boghani oversees a portfolio of 19 trading hotels across the country. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Boghani’s days of crunching accounting figures are long gone.
Among his most recent successes, Shiraz Boghani developed the Hilton London Bankside, in a deal estimated to be worth more than £121 million, as well as the luxurious Conrad London St. James. That isn’t all though, Boghani also serves as Chairmen of Soujourn Hotels LLP, where he was a founding partner. His most recent developments include the New Ellington in Leeds, and the Mercure Bristol Brigstow Hotels. He has also worked tirelessly to spearhead the technological updates that allow his hotels to remain competitive in an ever-connected world.
From success to success, Shiraz Boghani has continued to innovate, adapting his skills in the hotel industry to the field of care and rehabilitative homes. He, alongside partner Shafik Sachedina, helped found Sussex Healthcare Limited. Boghani’s hotelier skills combined with Sachedina’s background in healthcare, has seen Sussex Healthcare grow to 18 care homes, spread across the southern coast of England. The award-winning healthcare network specializes in long-term adult care and rehabilitation. The company has a mission derived from Boghani’s work in the hotel industry, which is to provide its patients with well-rounded access to, not only meet their healthcare needs, but provide the social and recreational activities and amenities that enhance quality of life.
Not one to rest on his professional achievements, Boghani also devotes his skills and time to a number of charitable causes. He has been a loyal and outspoken supporter of the Aga Khan Foundation, located in the UK, and the global Aga Khan Development Network. He also devotes his talents to the Aga Khan University’s National Council and Resource Development board.
For the little boy from Kenya, who first moved to the UK in 1969 to become an accountant, Shiraz Boghani has surpassed all expectations and the only question left for the renowned hotelier is: What is next?
