Everything You Need To Know About Dick DeVos

A BRIEF LOOK INTO DICK & BETSY DEVOS PHILANTHROPIC WORKS.

A lot has been said and written about the many heroes and business people involved in charity work in America. Of particular interest to me is the admirable involvement of Dick DeVos and his wife, Betsy DeVos in charity work and how they have managed to push for education reforms in Michigan State as well as on a national level.

The DeVoses founded the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, a charitable organization that majorly supports education, leadership, arts and other community based programs. Some of their successful projects include the Education Freedom Fund which has seen over 4,000 students awarded with scholarships to attend schools of their own choosing. The beneficiaries are drawn from various institutes which include Northwood University and the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

They also started the West Michigan Aviation Academy, a charter high school for students looking to pursue careers in the aviation industry. Dick and Betsy DeVos have also each sat on various boards focusing on education reforms in Michigan, including the State Board of education, Children Firs America, American Education Reform, to mention but a few.

They have also initiated projects like the Great Lakes education Project, aimed at promoting education reforms through expansion of charter schools in Michigan. The DeVos Institute of Arts Management is another one of their projects, aimed at training and equipping art managers with the necessary skills to manage artists as well as art institutions.

Other than supporting education based projects, the DeVoses have also stretched their helping hand further to other community based project like housing and research. The Inner City Christian federation is a program that helps secure safe and affordable housing facilities for low to moderate income earning families.

Dick and Betsy DeVos also support a pollution study project into Lake Macatawa in Holland. The project, known as Project Clarity, is aimed at restoring the water quality of Lake Macatawa and the Macatawa Watershed through an approach focusing on community education and land restoration, and also to ensure long term sustainability of the lake.
